Power of Attorney
A power of attorney is a legal document that allows an individual, known as the “principal,” to appoint another individual, known as the “agent,” to make decisions and take actions on the principal’s behalf. The principal may grant the agent broad powers to handle a variety of matters or may limit the agent’s authority to specific tasks.
The power of attorney can be a valuable tool for individuals who may be unable to make decisions or take actions on their own due to illness, disability, or other circumstances.
It can also be used to plan for the future, in case the principal becomes incapacitated or unable to make decisions. It is important to carefully consider the choice of agent and to clearly outline the powers granted in the power of attorney document to ensure that the principal’s wishes are carried out.
At Dresser Law PLLC, John, our Michigan Estate Planning Lawyer can help draft and execute a power of attorney to ensure it is legally valid and meets the needs of the principal.
